The Busselton Pies secured their first win for the season against the Collie Eagles in round four of the South West Football League on Saturday afternoon at the Collie Recreation Ground.
In the first quarter, the Pies came out firing, kicking four goals, to the Eagles' goalless quarter.
Pies coach Steven Lester said the plan of attack for the day was playing as well as they did in previous rounds, but refining their play a little.
"In the first three rounds we thought we played some pretty good footy, but still we hadn't done enough to get a result," he said.
Heading into the second quarter the Pies were on a comfortable lead of 4.1-25, to the Eagles 0.2-2.
Steven said it was all about applying some extra pressure on the Eagles.
"It was more a case of using the footy a bit better than we did in previous weeks and taking our opportunities," he said.
The Pies did just that. By half time they had started to take the game away from the Eagles, kicking another two goals and nine behinds, bringing their lead up to 6.10-46, to the Eagles 0.3-3.
The windy weather conditions on the day was a contributing factor to the large number of behinds kicked from both sides.
Eagles coach Seth White said at half time he gave the boys a crack for their lack of effort.
"They just took the easy route all the time," he said.
Seth said a lot of their experienced players had been taken out with injuries.
"We had probably seven or eight of our best out, and blokes that needed to stand up weren't interested and when you've got a young side it trickles down pretty quick," he said.
Steven said with a large number of Collie's best players out definitively worked to their advantage.
"We planned with some of their senior guys in and when they weren't in it made things easier," he said.
The Pies also took out a couple of injuries early, which Steven said made the rotation difficult.
"It's always a bit of a bruising encounter when you do play Collie depending on who they have in and out," he said.
By the end of the third quarter there was little to no hope for the Eagles to make a come back with the Pies leading by 8.13-61, to the Eagles disappointing 1.4-10.
Heading into the final quarter the Eagles tried to fight back and put some more scores on the board, kicking three goals, but it wasn't enough.
When the siren sounded the Pies kicked one final goal bringing their win to an outstanding 15.15-105, to the Eagles 4.6-30 loss.
Seth said it was overall a very disappointing loss.
"We have to give a lot of credit to Busselton, they're a really good side," he said
