WOMEN'S
The Collie Power women's squad came away with a glorious victory against Dalyellup Park Rangers on Sunday, May 19.
Travelling short yet again, the Power put on an impressive display of football with 10 on field against a team sitting on top of the ladder.
Collie put the pressure on early into the first half, with some great assistance from forward Goya Olecki and midfielder Bonny Berridge allowing star striker Sarah Vansnick to score the first goal.
Left wing Tahya Magill made an incredible shot at goal from the centre wing which just missed the net by a hair.
Dalyellup made many attempts on goal but these were expertly deflected by keeper Lauren Ingram, although a scramble toward the end of the first half resulted in a quick ball being popped into the back of Collie's net.
The Power were undeterred by this, as the defence lead by Kirsten Thomson and Shenae Chappell continued to shutdown attempts by the Rangers. The first half closed with a tight lead for Collie at 2-1.
Collie have been playing smart for a number of weeks now, preparing themselves for having no substitutes and the practice is certainly making perfect.
A structure change was put into place to work in a more defensive manner and protect the one-goal lead gained in the second half.
Defender Micheila Botha dazzled the opponents with her speed, working hard to take possession and send the ball through to Collie's attacking half which gave Dalyellup chances to reset play, but this was swiftly closed down by Collie's defense.
Some dazzling teamwork between left wing Bree Allen, midfielder Alison McSporran and Berridge gave Vansnick the third goal to secure Collie's lead even further.
As the second half came toward the final 10 minutes, a very spent Collie couldn't stave off a swift effort from Dalyellup's striker meaning the final bout of competition was going to be tough.
All 10 players showed how well they could adapt and work purely defensively as they tightly marked Dalyellup's players and tirelessly kept the final score at 3-2.
MEN'S
Collie Power Men's travelled to Australind on Sunday, May 19 to take on the Blues.
The first half saw the visitors take complete control with plenty of space in behind for the forwards. However, the first couple of goals were provided by youngster Lachlan Papalia.
His outstanding corner kicks tormented the home defence all afternoon and it was two of these corners that resulted in goals for Collie.
The first found the head of player-coach Garreth Harker and the second amazingly sailed into an open net directly from Papalia himself (his first ever goal for the club).
Shortly after, Mark Tenney scored what would be his first of three for the game, which was assisted by Daniel Kearney.
Ricky Columbera was also outstanding both in defence and from free kick deliveries - two of which found the heads of Tenney (for his second) and his centre back partner, Hayden DeAngelis.
The returning Michael Flatt also got on the score sheet when Tenney honoured his far post run with an excellent pass.
The second half saw the Power drop off in forward pressure and opt for more possession in defence and midfield.
With around 20 minutes to go, Harker sent Tenney through to bag his hat trick and with the final play of the game, Jovan Duricic's corner kick found the head of returning Adam Cole, who added the eighth and final goal to cap off an impressive afternoon for Collie.
The final score line was 8-0 and with the top half of the table being extremely close, days like these may be the deciding factor at season's end where goal difference is concerned.
