JOHN Michalak celebrated the first day of winter with a hot streak on the back nine to claim top spot in the Tom Price and Sons 18-hole stableford at Collie Golf Club last Saturday.
One four and three 3-pointers enabled Michalak to return 22 points on the closing nine for an overall total of 39.
Just one shot behind was Len Hennigan, making good his recent improved form, on 38, while playing partner, Alan Kent, also won a trophy for his score of 37.
Paul Moyses and Darren O'Brien played to their handicaps with 36, while one off their handicaps, on 35, were Brett Smith, Colin Naysmith, Chris Shannon, Rod Simmonds, Joe Italiano and Greg Bell.
On 34 and also receiving vouchers were Trevor McCormick, John Wray, Colin Giblett, Neil Motion and Kalev Kutt.
The ladies' trophy was won by Debbie Van Volenstee with 35.
Nearest the pin novelties were won by Trevor McCormick and Rhonda Annandale (No. 4), Greg Bell (7) and Steve Farquhar (14). Longest putts were sunk by Ash Seeber (6), Peter Coombs (9) and Ian Stewart (18), while Colin Giblett's drive down No. 15 was the longest on the day.
Scroungers
On a day of good scoring, Kalev Kutt and Eric Annandale took out the top two positions in last Thursday's nine-hole scroungers competition. Both returned 20 stableford points with Kutt taking first place on a spin.
Jim Tyler, Ian Shannon and Jeff Crowe were one shot behind the leaders, on 19 apiece while Rod Simmonds, Peter Ellery, Chris Stewart, Steve Farquhar and Peter Coombs each finished with an 18-point return.
Chris Stewart won the best gross voucher with his good round of 37 shots off-the-stick, while novelty winners were Mick Pokrywka (4), Roger Hunter (6) and Ed Riley (9).
Leisure Day
Colin Naysmith was the winner of last week's Tuesday 18-hole leisure day stableford competition.
On a day of moderate scoring, "Big Col" won with 36 points, one shot ahead of Jay Robinson and Colin Giblett on 35. Mun Lye was next in with 33, followed by Stephen Ireland and Hugh Annandale who rounded out the vouchers on 32.
Mick Jack won the best vet award with 34 points.
Novelties went to Colin Giblett (4), Joe Italiano (7), Jim Moyses (9), Colin Naysmith (14) and Danny Cheng (18).
This Saturday's event is an 18-hole stableford, sponsored by Chris Stewart and Alby Hunter. Nine-hole scroungers will be played today (Thursday), with leisure day next Tuesday at the usual times.
