Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are being urged to protect themselves and their families against the 2019 cold and flu season.
South West Aboriginal Medical Service chief executive officer Lesley Nelson said the best way to protect yourself from the flu was to get vaccinated.
"The flu can be a very serious illness and unfortunately, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are at a higher risk of developing complications," she said.
Influenza symptoms are typically more severe than your common cold and is caused by a virus that can infect your nose, throat and sometimes lungs.
Influenza symptoms, such as fever, headache, tiredness and muscle aches, can start suddenly. Symptoms can last for a week or more.
SWAMS is offering free Influenza vaccinations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from their clinic rooms at the Collie Hospital on Mondays between 10am and 4pm.
