Collie's emergency services personnel got the chance to learn new skills earlier this month.
Synergy teamed up with some of the state's emergency response organisations to participate in a dramatic mock crisis exercise at Muja Power Station on Saturday, June 22.
More than 60 personnel took part in the simulated emergency exercise (Simex) designed to test Synergy's emergency management plan at Muja, and the response capabilities of multiple emergency services and industries in the region.
The exercise involved an incident on the decommissioned Muja AB site, with casualties, a structural collapse, fires, at-height incidents, and a confined space rescue.
The event involved a multi-agency response, including Department of Fire and Emergency Services - Collie Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bunbury Fire and Rescue Services, WA Police and St John Ambulance.
Local industry also joined Muja's own emergency response team, including Griffin Coal, South 32, Medic 1 and Wilson Security.
Muja Operations Manager Brent Italiano said the exercise tested the immediate response to incidents and the escalation protocols across other agencies.
"The exercise was a unique opportunity to utilise the non-operational areas of the power station to test the capabilities of participating teams in responding to an emergency, disaster or crisis situation," Mr Italiano said.
"There are very complex processes that need to be practised and reinforced regularly to ensure efficient response which may mean the difference between life and death.
"The ability to put skills to the test in a heavy industrial setting is of real benefit to workers and the broader community across the South-West."
Mr Italiano praised all the emergency and industry personnel who took part in the exercise.
The operations of Muja Power Station (Muja CD) and its supply to the SWIS were not impacted by the Simex activities on site.
