Premier Coal has dipped its toes into train heritage this month after committing to help power the iconic Hotham Valley Railway.
The local mining organisation announced a donation to power the Peel region's heritage railway last week, through the Premier Coal Community Support Program.
Operations manager Jim Falconer said Premier Coal was looking forward to being part of the proud history of the Hotham Valley Railway.
"The Hotham Valley Railway offers rail travellers an amazing historical experience of steam power while enjoying the scenic splendour of Western Australia's Darling Escarpment," he said.
"With a significant presence in the Collie area, we aim to make a positive difference in the community, therefore powering the steam ranger train service was a natural fit."
The steam ranger train services operate between May and October.
The program aims to make a positive difference in the local community and lives of the people who work and live in the area.
