Collie Eagles have proven to be superior birds of prey after taking down the bottom-placed Harvey Bulls in the South West Football League game on the weekend.
The home side took charge from the opening bounce, scratching the first and final marks on the score card and maintaining the lead that they snatched early in the game to claim a, 18.17(12) to 5.13 (43) victory.
Fighting hard in the first term and mounting several forward thrusts, the Bulls were unable to match Collie's polished forwards and the Eagles claimed a three-goal lead by the end of the quarter.
Hayden Yarran was Collie's premier goal kicker on the day, bagging four goals and giving off several others, accompanied by Marlin Johns and Kyle Shanahan, who each added three goals.
Matthew Blackford, Alex Tweeduem, Rhys Chappell, Austin Kent, Mathew Michael and Riley Brown also hit the scoreboard for the home side.
Collie coach Seth White praised his team for the way in which they bounced back after a disappointing loss the previous week.
"I thought they went really well, obviously coming up against a lower team and being out of contention for finals it can be pretty hard to get the boys up,' he said.
"We set up a few KPIs for them that they had to tick off during the game, which they obviously met, and produced a winning result so we're pretty happy with that."
Kyle Shanahan was probably our best player for the match, then guys like Matt Blackford, Adam Bignell.
- Colle Eagles league coach Seth White.
White highlighted the performance of his side's senior players, who led the way from start to finish.
"Kyle Shanahan was probably our best player for the match, then guys like Matt Blackford, Adam Bignell and pretty much all our leaders were really good," he said.
On the other side of the coin, Zak Italiano and Brendon Coxon were important players for the Bulls, keeping the team's spirits high despite the result.
Jay Collard was the leading scorer for the Bulls, kicking three goals, and was supported by Duncan Davis and Jacob Pickett, who booted one goal apiece.
Despite the victory, the Eagles remain in seventh position on the SWFL ladder.
Earlier in the day, the Collie Eagles colts weren't as lucky, falling to a powerful Harvey Bulls team in a 5.11 (41) to 12.10 (82) result.
Despite a strong start in which the home side went goal for goal with the visitors, the Eagles started to fall away before half time.
Despite the loss, a great attitude and terrific sportsmanship was on show throughout the game.
Dylan Benton, Kieran Escott, Jack Rinder, Josh West, Kaydon Pola and Deion Gibson were the star players for the Eagles..
The Eagles' female team also went down to the Harvey Bulls in a disappointing 1.0 (6) to 10.5 (65) result.
With Collie's chances fading rapidly, the girls managed to keep up the pressure and give the Bulls their all.
Rinay Swallow was lone goal kicker for the Eagles, kicking that major part way through the second quarter.
Next week, the Collie teams will travel to Brunswick Oval to take on top team Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.
In other league games on the weekend, Donnybrook squeaked past South Bunbury at home, while Harvey Brunswick Leschenault narrowly defeated the Eaton Boomers.
