Oral History Workshop: Thanks to a grant from Lotterywest, the Shire of West Arthur has organised a free two-day oral history workshop at the West Arthur CRC, September 7-8. Lunch is provided and you will learn how to prepare for an interview, use different interview techniques and operate recording equipment. Contact the West Arthur CRC on 9736 2000 to book. Yarn Bombing: The community is invited to participate in the Blue Tree Project for Mental Health Week October 6-12. This involves 'yarn bombing' the Darkan entry statement trees and covering them in blue knitted or crochet squares. So if you can whip up some 30x30cm squares to help cover the two large metal trees, you can drop them off to the Shire of West Arthur offices and know you have helped raise awareness of mental health. Tidy Towns Finalists: Keep Australia Beautiful Board has announced finalists in the 2019 Awards, and West Arthur is a finalist in the Young Legends and Community Action and Wellbeing sections. Amy Lubcke is the West Arthur Young Legends entrant for her work overseas and the West Arthur Meals for Seniors is the main project for the Community Action and Wellbeing category. The awards winners will be announced in October. WAX Wind-Up and Exhibition: All welcome to the Exhibition event on September 20 from 6.30pm. There will be free roast beef and gravy rolls and live music and BYO drinks. RSVP by September 17 to go into prize draw! Bring along your welding creations and proudly show what you were inspired to make, even if it's not quite finished. If you have something to exhibit please bring it to the West Arthur CRC or leave it at Putland Motors if it's big, by September 17. There is a great prize to win just by exhibiting for People's Choice Award! CWA Bring and Buy: Check out the CWA stall outside Rarebits on Burrowes Café in Darkan on September 24 from 10am-2pm. The funds raised will go to the upkeep of the CWA Rooms. If you have any items to donate then please contact Jane Hartnett on 0427 522 759. End of Darkan Dart Season: The dart season came to an end with both Darkan A and B teams in the grand final and both games going, unsuccessfully, to the wire. At the end of year trophy presentations, those recognised for the year included: Dave Wright for A-grade Singles; Dave Gooding for B-grade Singles with runner-up going to Ashleigh Putland. Doubles winners were George Anthony Gray and Tata George, with runners-up Caine Gray and Scott. Most Pegs winner was Liza Boyce. Highest Average was Dave Wright and Highest Aggregate was Dave Gooding. Congratulations to Dave Wright for a 180 badge.
