DEB Van Vollenstee has won her first Collie Golf Club ladies' title.
Van Vollenstee finished four shots ahead of multiple former club champion Vicki Graham and 10 strokes better than third-placed Dot Lawrence over the two rounds of the competition, which concluded last week.
An opening round of 89 set up Van Vollenstee's victory. She followed it up with 91 in the second round, for a 36-hole total of 180.
The runner-up had rounds of 94 and 90 for 184, while Dot Lawrence's strong finishing round of 89 followed 101 in the opening round, for a 190 total.
Van Vollenstee's 89 was the best gross on opening day, with Vicki Graham posting 94.
Lawrence had 89 for the second round, with Graham again the "bridesmaid" when returning another 94.
Sue Earnshaw played consistent golf to win the nett section, with rounds of 74 and 76 for a total of 150.
She was two better than club president Lesley Motion, on 152 (78 and 74) and four better than Deb Van Vollenstee's 154 (76 and 78).
The opening round's best nett went to Earnshaw, with 74, which was one stroke better than Lee Massara's 75.
Second round nett winner was Lawrence, with 70, finishing well clear of the 74 scored by Motion.
Birdies were recorded during the championships by Judy Italiano (No. 4), Sue Earnshaw (2) and Eileen Riley (3).
LAST Saturday's Pirtek Group two-person Ambrose event was won by Trevor McCormick and Greg Moyle, on a countback from Ken Tate and Terry Reeves with 641/4 nett.
Just outside the trophy allocation were the combinations of Colin Giblett-Jeff Crowe and Kyle Hulls-Regan Old on 64 1/2.
Others to do well were Graeme Jackson-Brad Swan 66, Eric Annandale-George Newlands 66 1/4, Kevin Ireland-Graham Williams 66 1/2.
John Michalak-Neil Motion 67 and Ash Stewart-Michael Dowling 67 1/2.
John Michalak had a field day out when winning four of the 18 novelties on offer (Nos 6, 9, 17 and 18), while Kim Metcalfe (1, 2 and 4) and Colin Giblett (5, 11 and 16) won three each.
Two of the other nine novelties were won by Peter Coombs (10 and 13).
Other novelty winners were Rob Carr (3), Deb Van Volenstee (ladies' 4), Jim Larsen (7), Ron Annandale (8), Warren Hann (12), Mick Finlay (14) and Stephen Miller (15).
Scroungers
DAVID Broadbent beat Ian Annandale on a spin of the wheel in last Thursday's nine-hole scroungers event after both had posted 20 points.
They were one better than Brian Banks, Frank Battista and Ron Annandale, on 19, with seven others on 18 - Terry Massara, John Michalak, Ken Tate, Terry Reeves, Dave Farr, Gary Old and Ray Cooper.
Chris Stewart had 38 off-the-stick for the best gross, while novelties went to Steven Ireland (No. 4), Peter Ellery (6) and Neil Motion (9).
Leisure Day
GOOD scoring belied the small field which participated in the 18-hole leisure day stableford on Tuesday of last week.
Top scoring, with 40 points, was Trevor Graham who was one better than Roger Hunter, on 39.
Ed Riley, on 36, and Mun Lye, 35, also received vouchers.
Alan Kent (No. 4), Roger Hunter (9), Neil Motion (14) and Fred Bronickis (18) won the novelties.
