Bulls crush Redbacks in one-day cup

The Bulls moved to outright top of the ladder after a strong display with bat and ball earned a bonus point win.

The home side eased to the victory target, posting 3-227 off 35.5 overs in response to South Australia's all out for 226 off 48.5 overs.

The tone was set early in the run chase with 20 coming off the opening two overs as Queensland's powerful batting line-up seemed intent on chasing a bonus point from the outset.

Max Bryant thrashed a quickfire 32 off 21 balls at the top of the order, while opening partner Sam Heazlett hit 51 off 43 for a sixth half century in just his 11th outing in the competition.

Ashes breakthrough star Marnus Labuschagne batted with confidence before he was dismissed for 18.

But Matthew Renshaw (52 not out) and Joe Burns (65 not out) had little trouble overhauling the target as the pair combined for an unbeaten 114-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Batting seemed much harder earlier in the day for South Australia in their opening innings of the summer.

Veteran batsman Tom Cooper was the only Redback to post a half century before he was the ninth wicket to fall for 62.

Opener Jake Weatherald maintained last season's form with 44, while Alex Carey made 29 and Joe Mennie contributed a lusty 31 down the order.

There were strong contributions from Queensland's frontline bowlers headlined by Billy Stanlake (3-38) and spinner Matthew Kuhnemann (3-39).

Even batsman Renshaw picked up his first Australian domestic one-day cup wicket, dismissing Weatherald lbw.

Renshaw took 1-19 off three overs, earning some good turn with his off-spin.

It was a second win in three days for the Bulls after they posted a record run-chase at Allan Border Field in seeing off NSW in their season opener on Sunday.

SA were without regular captain Travis Head following his Ashes exertions, while Michael Neser lined up for Queensland for his first outing of the summer.
