Collie Western Riding Association trotted into the latest riding season with its Spring Western Show on the weekend.
The Saturday event saw a deviation from the usual focus on reining events as it introduced western riding, ranch riding and trail.
Association member Tim Elliot said the weekend event was a wonderful addition to the calendar.
"It was a really wonderful day and great to see people getting involved in non-reining events," she said.
"Following the competition we had Mike Donovan run a clinic which was really well received.
"He shared his knowledge and experience with the riders and everyone walked away learning something new."
Mr Donovan is a reigning champion since the age of 13 and has worked with renown horsemen including JD Willton-Australian Master Horseman for two years, Ian Frances, Doug Mulholland and Mark Shaffer.
