Reckless driving leads to burglary charges

A 26-year-old male has been charged with a string of offences after being caught stealing a motorbike and in possession of drugs.

Police say the male rode off from police in speed after driving recklessly on a motorbike on the night of October 12.

As a result of enquiries police established the vehicle was stolen from a nearby residence earlier in the night.

After returning to the address of the stolen bike, police allege the man attempted to ride off however was unable to start the bike and after a short foot chase was apprehended by police.

Acting officer in charge Terry Townsend said as police were handcuffing the offender they found cannabis and more stolen items from the burglary address.

"The male is already on bail for similar offences which occurred in Perth," snr sgnt Townsend said.

"Because of this I refused bail and it will be up to the magistrate the consider the options for him."

Police charged the man with two counts of trespassing, two counts of stealing, home burglary and commit, possession of a prohibited drug, possession of stolen property and a breach of bail.

He was expected to face charges in Bunbury Magistrate's court on Friday October 18.
