Last weekend saw Collie Year 7 team face a double header.
The first game was on Saturday against the unbeaten Hay Park. Hay Park took to the crease first and managed to knock up a decent total in their first innings.
T. Bell took the first wicket just three balls into the game with a speedy delivery onto stumps.
Not long after, Collie managed to pick up a run out which saw Hay Park end their innings on 2/87.
Collie started slow with the bat but soon got their eye in and started to put runs on the board.
C. McCagh batted extremely well and retired after facing 30 balls. M. Dallywater and O. McLean soon followed suit and joined McCagh with retirements.
Collie finished their first inning on 3/88. Just one run in front of Hay Park.
Hay Park's second innings saw them all dismissed with some very talented team work and accuracy in the 29th over.
Bowling/fielding stats were: Bell 1/18 off 5 overs, M. Dallywater 1/14 off 4 overs and 1 catch, Worlley 1/28 off 4 overs, McLean 1/14 off 4.3 overs and 1 catch, I. Dallywater 0/24 off 3 overs, Pernich 0/12 off 2 overs and McCagh 2/19 off 4 overs.
Collie then returned to the crease to chase down the total of 148.
McCagh and M. Dallywater returned from retirement to hit the winning runs for Collie.
The pair put on a superb partnership which saw Dallywater make Busselton Districts Junior Cricket Association's highest score since records started in 2013.
With the help of his team mates Dallywater was retired for a second time on 101 not out.
McClean then faced three more balls before end of innings.
Batting stats were: Bell 15, McCagh 17 not out, M. Dallywater 101 not out, McLean 47 not out and Worlley 13.
Collie won by 81 runs.
Collie's second game for the weekend was against Marist and they opened the game batting.
The team managed an impressive 92 runs in the first innings at the loss of three wickets.
Collie then managed to hold Marist to 76 runs for their first innings and took seven of their eight wickets.
Back at the crease I. Dallywater smashed her way to her highest score to date, 40 not out. Bell and McLean also put on displays of skill, knocking up 26 (Bell) and 54 not out (McLean).
The game ended after dismissing Marist's last batter. Collie finished 7/196 and Marist were 8/80.
Bowling stats were:
Washer 3/11 off 2.1 overs and 1 catch; Pernich 1/4 off 2 overs; M. Dallywater 2/10 off 3 overs and 1 catch; Scott 0/19 off 2 overs; I. Collie now break for the Christmas holidays until Saturday, February 8.
B-Grade cricket
Collie took on Eaton Cricket club in the Busselton Districts Cricket Association B-grade competition on the weekend.
After a good result last week giving Collie some space in second place it was important to keep the pressure on leading into the Christmas break.
The game didn't start well with Captain Greg Tomasini losing another toss and Eaton chose to bat first on a great looking Collie pitch.
Veteran fast bowler Steve Ireland made Eaton regret their decision and picked up a wicket with the first two deliveries of the game.
He almost completed a hat-trick as the Eaton number 4 batsman inside edged passed the stumps for a single.
After an exciting start Eaton settled in and their middle order began to build a total steadily.
Wickets were few and far between and Collie had Eaton 6 for 158 with ten overs to go.
In walked Eaton captain Jake Rudd who turned the game in Eaton's favour.
He hit 70 from 33 balls to drive the Eaton total to a very respectable 232.
Best bowlers were Matt Tanner with 3 for 31 from 10 overs including his 200th wicket for Collie and Steve Ireland with 2 for 38 from 9 overs.
Collie had chased down 190 last week so 233 for victory was well within reach.
A good start was needed however it didn't occur as the top four failed with ducks to Steve Ireland and Jarved Dallywater and single figure scores to the Kent brothers Austin and Brayden.
Collie were 4 for 19 and seemed on the ropes.
Mark Williams and Greg Tomasini steadied the ship and began to build a partnership.
The two began to dominate the Eaton bowlers as the Collie score passed 100.
Collie seemed to be back in the game and if the pair could bat for another 20 overs the score would be chased down in no time.
Unfortunately the two fell before the drinks break to leave Collie at 6 for 127 at the break.
The lower order tried but couldn't get the extra 100 required despite a handy 26 from Matt Tanner.
Collie were bowled out in the 32nd over for 161, well short of the required 233.
Best batsman: G Tomasini 48, M Williams 40, M Tanner 26.
Collie travel to Forrest Park to take on Marist next week in the last game before the Christmas/New Year break.
