Volunteer Celebrations: Local volunteers were thanked recently at a sundowner event in Darkan held at the new outside entertainment area of the Health and Resource Centre. Guests were treated to some delicious catering from Rarebits on Burrowes and entertained by singer Elavina Williams and also the local choir who sang three songs. Shire president Kevin King officially welcomed everyone and thanked the volunteers in the community and then introduced guest speaker the 2019 National Individual Young Legend Lauren Jackson who spoke about her work as a volunteer with her charity the Children of Maasai Educational Programme. Lake Towerrinning Plan: The Lake Towerrinning Management Plan was reviewed by the Shire of West Arthur following consultation with relevant stakeholders in 2019. The draft plan is now available for comment on the Shire web site or it can be viewed at the Shire office until March 2. Comments should be directed to Kerryn Chia at the Shire on 9736 2222. Host Families Wanted: Darkan Primary School are partnering with WA universities to offer placements for pre-graduate teachers and are looking for volunteer families to host students while they are placed at Darkan PS. Billeting will be from 2-10 weeks and it's hoped by offering these placements it will encourage students to apply for teaching jobs in rural areas upon graduation. Those interested can contact principal Eloisa Goss on 9736 1299. Oppy Shop: The Oppy Shop made $300 in January which went to Heart Research WA. Funds in February will go to Leukaemia Foundation WA. Yoga in Darkan: Tara Cook has resumed yoga at the West Arthur CRC on Fridays from 10-11.30am. If you have not been to a class yet please contact Tara before you come along. Facebook: Tara Cook Yoga - Breath of Life or email tabasper@gmail.com. Creche available for $10 per child but must be pre-booked with the CRC - call 9736 2000. Heavy Vehicle Piloting Training: Book in now for the Heavy Vehicle Piloting course in Darkan on March 10 and 11. Cost is $1,100 for the two days. Register ASAP with the West Arthur CRC on 9736 2000 (workshop limit of 10).
