The Collie Heritage and Men's Shed Group Incorporated will soon be two separate entities after almost 90 per cent of its members voted in favour of the move.
The decision for the group to split was made at a special general meeting on November 2, 2019, with the Asset Distribution Plan to be implemented later this month.
Collie Men's Shed spokesperson Ian Bushell said the move was a product of several years worth of talks that the organisation would function best as two separate entities.
"It's being wound up because the purposes and objectives in the current constitution for a Men's Shed and a Heritage Group really don't work," he said.
"The men's shed is for men that need somewhere to go, something to do, somewhere to talk. The objectives for the heritage side of it was maintaining and restoring heritage rail stock. It was just not fitting together any more."
The organisation has about 100 members and has been a single entity for almost a decade, but only gained a dedicated men's shed more than four years ago.
Mr Bushell acknowledged that having the shed highlighted the difference in objectives and said members looked forward to pursuing more community projects and operating as a men's shed in its own right.
Once implemented, the Asset Distribution Plan needs to be signed off by the president of the committee before going to the Association's branch in Perth and being forwarded to the Commissioner - who authorises the cancellation of the group.
