Inmates at the Bunbury Regional Prison have rolled up their sleeves and worked together to assist a beloved community organisation.
Obtained more than nine years ago, the Disabled Surfers Association - South-West's purpose-built trailer was in desperate need of repair.
The association's members frequently use the trailer to transport wheelchairs, surfboards, and other necessary equipment up and down the beach.
Some of the prison's inmates and trade personnel recently revamped the trailer, before handing it back to the club on October 1, 2020.
Disabled Surfers Association - South-West president Ant Pursell gave thanks to the prison for its extraordinary efforts over the past few months.
Bunbury Regional Prison assistant superintendent Shane Dowell said the project provided the inmates with many new skills, helping them to become "job-ready".
"We're always interested in assisting the community...when we were called upon to assist the club, we were more than happy to do it," he said.
"The prison is a part of this community, and we assist with a lot of community projects across the South-West.
"The end result is great for the club and our prisoners."
Looking forward to the summer months, the club will hold its next free 'Let's Go Surfing Day' event at Dunsborough's Bunker Bay on December 12.
Each participant must be accompanied by a carer, if necessary.
