Jestar flights set to take off from Busselton in first quarter of 2021

Plans are underway for Jetstar flights between Busselton and Melbourne to commence in the first quarter of 2021.

A Jetstar spokesperson told the Mail they remain committed to launching the services and were working with the airport and City of Busselton on preparations.

"It's great news that travellers from Victoria and New South Wales will soon be able to travel to Western Australia quarantine-free," the spokesperson said.

"We are reviewing our schedule and as we plan the ramp up of our operations will add more flights where there is demand."

Flights between Busselton and Melbourne were due to start in March 2020, days after the federal and state governments announced a nationwide lockdown period in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before the highly anticipated flights had a chance to take off Jetstar were forced to postpone the launch of the services as planes were temporarily grounded worldwide.

Jetstar have confirmed customers with bookings between Melbourne and Busselton will be contacted directly if there are any changes to their flights.

A range of alternative options will be provided to customers, which depending on the circumstances may include a refund.

City of Busselton mayor Grant Henley said they were very excited about the recommencement of the Jetstar flights and was pleased to hear the news that the borders were reopening.

Mr Henley said he hoped the flights were as popular as they were when they were first announced a year ago and that people had an appetite to travel within Australia, particularly people from the Eastern States who would like to visit the South West.

He said the announcement from Jetstar was also great news for tourism operators who were hit hard during the pandemic.
