AGREEMENT in principle has been reached on a new pay and conditions deal for Griffin Coal production workers.
“We had talks earlier in the week and yesterday and got agreement in principle,” Griffin Coal’s industrial relations manager Chris Godfrey said this morning.
“The finalised agreement is to be voted on at a meeting on June 14.”
The agreement with the CFMEU has been “a long time coming” but the two parties “weren’t that far apart”, Mr Godfrey said.
The disagreement was only about how the pay increases were structured “but we have found mutually agreed terms for production workers”.
CFMEU mining and energy section secretary Gary Wood said contractor coming onto Griffin’s Collie mine sites would get thesame pay and conditions as exising workers.
This would open up employment opportunities for members of the Collie community.
The CFMEU last week gave Lanco until June 1 to meet its demands or face protected industrial action.
Mr Godfrey said every time possible industrial action was mentioned in the news media, it created anxiety for the company’s customer.
