THE finishing touches have been done on the new turf surface at the Preston Road hockey ground.
The old turf was rip ped up last year and has now been replaced with a new, high grade turf.
The waterless turf has made the venue world class, according to Collie Hockey Association president Gary Faries. "It is good because water is so expensive," he said. "It is top of the range."
Mr Faries said the new turf would last longer and be easier on the body during games. "We hope to get a minimum of 15 years out if it," he said.
The previous turf also only had a 10mm shock pad, whereas the new turf has a 15mm shock pad underlay, Mr Faries said.
The $400,000 project has been self-funded by the association, with members helping to rip the turf up in November to save costs.
Mr Faries said the turf was laid in time for the new season, which opens on March 23.
The community is welcome to attend the opening day games.
"There will be full bar and canteen facilities, we would love the community to come and support us," Mr Faries said.
He urged local businesses to get involved by using the advertising space available on the surrounds of the ground.
