The launch of the trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at the MTV Movie Awards may spark a role for Rebel Wilson in the third film.
The trailer was held out as a highlight of the evening in promotions and links between the awards and the movie may get even stronger if a rumoured role for Rebel Wilson, the MTV Movie Awards host, come to fruition.
Fellow Australian Liam Hemsworth introduced the trailer on the night, which is the first look at author Suzanne Collins' dystopic world as envisaged by new director Francis Lawrence, who previously helmed Water for Elephants and I Am Legend.
Though it was described as a teaser trailer, at over two minutes long it contains both a strong sense of the style and the plot for the second film - including the role of Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, plotting the downfall of Lawrence's Katniss Everdeeen and the other victors.
There is no sign of the games that make up the second half of Collins' second book, but there is a kiss between Lawrence and Hemsworth's character Gale Hawthorne.
Unsurprisingly, Wilson does not feature in the trailer, as she would presumably only appear in the third film should any role eventuate.
"Seriously, I have had a meeting about being in The Hunger Games. Yes.” she told website Buzzfeed in a promotional interview for the Awards.
"There aren’t a lot of roles open, because they’ve all already been cast, but that would be awesome," she said. "I’d love to be in The Hunger Games."
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is due for release in Australia on November 21
