A 15-year-old girl was threatened with a knife by a man demanding money while she was walking down Prinsep Street in Collie near the Collie football oval at 4.20pm on Wednesday, March 26.
The girl was walking her dog when the man approached her and demanded money.
The girl showed him she had no pockets to store money and to get rid of him produced her mobile phone.
The man then put folded up the knife, put it away and ran off.
A short time later she saw the offender in a dark grey or black four wheel drive with Collie plates driving north on Prinsep Street and the man waved at her.
Bunbury acting inspector Richard Moore said the experience would have been terrifying for the young girl.
“The message for anyone unlucky enough to find themselves in this situation is to comply with the demands,” acting inspector Moore said.
“Money and property can be replaced.”
The man was described as being 25 to 30 years old, dark skinned, 178-182 centimetres tall, skinny and wearing a dark hooded sweater.
Collie senior sergeant Mike Dean said police are searching the town for the offender.
"Naturally we're outraged that such a serious offence could be committed in broad daylight against a juvenile female," he said.
"I'm sure some locals will know the identity of the offender so we are asking you to come forward or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
