CHIDLREN in Collie were the centre of attention last week as part of National Children's Week.
A children's fun day was held on Thursday at the Wallsend Ground with everything free for children.
Sponsored by Wors ley Alumina and the Shire of Collie and facilitated by the Collie Early Years Network, there were activities galore including a bouncy castle, petting zoo, Griffin train rides, face painting and visits by road safety mascot Izzy the Lizard.
Collie Early Years co-ordinator Pamela Peters said there were also plenty of sensory activities such as sand play and pasta threading, as well as a chance to get creative with Loose Parts Play's range of recycled and natural materials.
"Another exciting addition this year was the Nature Play Passport. Children received a blank passport, which they could then get 'stamped' at various activity stations on the day. This was a huge success and we will definitely be looking at including this again next year," Mrs Peters said.
"Children's Week is all about celebrating children and promoting the importance of childhood, which aligns really well with the aims of the Early Years Network. It is fantastic to see so many children's services providers and volunteers working together to provide such a wonderful event for Collie," she added.
