A visiting United States sailor is in hospital with serious injuries after a fight led him to jump from a 10th-floor balcony at Perth's Parmelia Hilton hotel on Monday morning.
WA Police spokeswoman Barbara Crane said police were called about 1am to the Mill Street hotel after the man and a fellow female sailor, from US aircraft carrier the USS Carl Vinson, made a disturbance.
She said police believed both to be heavily intoxicated, and that the fight led the man to jump into a pool, located on the second floor of the hotel.
"The man received serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening," she said.
St John Ambulance confirmed that staff took the man to Royal Perth Hospital after arriving about 1.15am.
The man is now in stable condition.
WA Police have given the US Navy carriage of the investigation.
The aircraft carrier arrived in Fremantle yesterday morning.
The Parmelia Hilton declined to comment.
