LIFE lessons were just one of the things learnt by the children at the Police Citizens Youth Club during Project Bike Builders.
As the name suggests, kids learnt how to build a bike from scratch and were allowed to keep their creations once completed.
Only those who finished their bikes during the sixweek program were able to keep them.
Collie Police Senior Sergeant Mike Dean organised 100 bikes which were in unclaimed property in Perth to be dropped off in Collie for the program.
Club chair Geoff Wilks thanked those who helped make the program possible.
“I would like to acknowledge Mike Dean from Collie Police, Gary Wallis for sharing his knowledge and Crank‘n’Cycles for their generous donations and for having belief that this project would benefit the youth of the PCYC in the long-term,” he said.
“The committee would also like to thank Amanda Dow for putting this all together.”
Participants started with a frame and used the spare parts to personalise their bike.
Children learnt how to build something from start to finish and take responsibility for their projects.
The program was an overwhelming success and the children who completed it were presented with a certificate, safety gear and their bike to take home.
