The Collie Senior High School oval sustained significant damage after vandals tore up the lawn with car tyres.
The damage occurred last Wednesday night and left deep tyre tracks over a portion of the oval.
Collie Senior High School Business Manager Sue Gledhill said the oval was ‘pretty cut up’ from the car.
“We have the sporting carnival coming up and we are unsure if it will be fixed in time, if not, the carnival won’t be cancelled but we will have to seek an alternative,” she said.
“There are sections of the oval that are just unusable.”
“We are unsure how much the damage will cost to fix, we are currently waiting to hear back about a quote.”
Ms Gledhill said due to the wet conditions on the oval she was surprised the culprit didn’t get bogged.
“We have reported the damage to police, and we may have to look at putting some bollards up to stop this occurring again in the future,” she said.
Collie police Senior Sargent Mike Dean said they are currently following a number of leads after members of the public came forward with information.
“Thanks to information supplied by the public, a number of people have been nominated,” he said.
“We are further investigating these names; these people will eventually be brought to book.”
“When we catch those responsible they won’t be moving around very much.”
Senior Sargent Dean issued a warning to people who damage property.
“People damaging public property can expect automatic accommodation with Collie Police over Christmas.”
