BUNBURY Motorcycle Club president Ian Scarlett has hailed 2015 KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championships held at the club over the past week as a complete success.
“The championships were fantastic – we had a number of terrific races and a lot of supporters turned out for the event,” he said.
“It was really good to see such a large amount of people enjoying the club and barracking for the riders.”
Mr Scarlett said the championships had helped to label Bunbury as a top destination for motocross events.
“This one has really put us on the map,” he said.
“We were able to showcase our facilities on a national scale and the event ran really smoothly, so it’s a really good thing for the club.”
Racing began on Saturday, September 26 and wrapped up on October 3.
Kayden Minear took out the championship titles for both the 50cc and 65cc under 9s while Noah Smerdon claimed a win in the 65cc solo 9-under 11s.

Cody Chittick of the WA Junior Motorcycle Club won the 65cc solo 11 years category while Regan Duffy overcame a number of strong riders to win the 85cc two-stroke and 150cc four-stroke categories.
Chittick said it was exciting to win in front of a home crowd.
“Winning the championship on home soil was definitely the best thing about this year; it helped a lot having so much support,” he said.
Mitchell Outram finished first in the 85cc two-stroke for under 16s while Taj Marshall (128cc, 150cc two-stroke and 200cc – 150cc four-stroke for under 15s) and Matt Fabry (100cc to 125cc two-stroke) placed atop the podium in their grades.
Hunter Lawrence picked up a double with wins in the 100cc to 125cc two-stroke and 200cc to 250cc four-stroke for under 15s.
Danielle Hunter rounded out the winners’ list with a first place finish in both under 16s girls’ categories.
Mr Scarlett said the club is looking forward to more events on the track.
“We’ve already applied for a senior championship to be held at Bunbury,” he said.
“We received some really good feedback about the club and the city last week, so hopefully we can host the seniors.”
