People rushing to the Goldfields region of WA later this month thinking the area was heading back to its heady days when brothels ruled the roost, will be left flaccid.
The sign outside the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder council HQ, advertising "coming events" appears to showcase an unorthodox event on May 21.
WAtoday thought perhaps the local council was trying to pour some extra coffers into its kitty after the Barnett government's Mycouncil website – which shows the financial status of councils – rated Kalgoorlie-Boulder one of the worst performers in WA.
But Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker made it clear there was no fornication festival coming to the Goldfields.
He reckons the sign clearly reads Flickerfest (you can make up your own mind).
Mr Walker told the radio station 981 RadioWest that the council had been inundated with calls from locals wanting to get to the bottom of what the sign said.
"I can confirm despite lots of emails and comments to the contrary ... so if people want to drive up and look, it definitely reads f, l, i," he said.
For the record, Flickerfest returns to the Kalgoorlie Town Hall on May 21.
During its heyday, the red light district on Hay Street used to house a raft of brothels.
