Bunce marks 40 years with CWA

40 Years with CWA: Faye Bunce was recently recognised for her 40 years of service to the Darkan CWA. Faye was presented with her award by surprise visitors to the celebratory afternoon tea at Rarebits Cafe, Sarah Kenny, State president and Margaret Sullivan, South Pacific president. The CWA is always happy to welcome new members and you can contact Darkan president Jane Hartnett with any inquiries on 0427 522 759. Autumn Games: The Autumn Games, played over three weeks at the Darkan Sport complex, produced a dominant performance by Bec South and Jim Wisniewski. This combination teaming well in all three disciplines of pool, table tennis and darts, leaving their opponents to marvel at their skills. The games attracted 30-35 people each week being sociable and having a great deal of fun in the process. Well done to all participants and the winners and a big thank you to Julie McFall and Taleah Higgie for the food. Keep an eye out for the Spring Games coming up later in the year. Trash Test Dummies: Get your tickets now for the comedy act Trash Test Dummies which will be at the Darkan Town Hall on June 9 at 7pm. Tickets are $22 for adults and $11 for children and concession card holders. Bookings can be made at the West Arthur CRC by calling 9736 2000. Awesome Rawsome Workshop: The WA powerhouse in the raw food movement Rawsome will be in Darkan for a workshop on May 28 at the Darkan Sports Club. Cost is $10 per person with a huge subsidy thanks to a grant from CBH. Bookings are essential to the West Arthur CRC on 9736 2000. More details are available when booking. Shire Council Meeting: The next Ordinary Meeting of Council will be held on May 24 in the Council Chambers commencing at 6pm. Book Fair: A Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Darkan Primary School Library on May 25 from 8.30am-3.30pm. Besides the children being able to purchase a book or educational material to read straight away, this is also a great opportunity for parents and grandparents to do some birthday or Christmas shopping as the school receives a commission on sales. The fair will run for one day only, so come in and have a look – all welcome, just sign in at the front office please. Shire Employment: Plant operator and/or general hand and general maintenance and cleaning staff full-time, part-time or casual employment is available. Interested persons should submit a resume or a completed application form, which is available from the Shire office or its website westarthur.wa.gov.au, to the Shire office. For inquiries about any of these positions, please call 9736 2222. Darkan Women’s Golf: Golf on May 21 is a men’s and women’s Pink Ribbon Cancer Day sponsored by Darkan Agri Services. Women’s golf on May 25 is a stroke event and the first qualifying round.
