FOR Aaron Donnelly speaking in front of a crowded room is something he considered to be way outside of his comfort zone, that is until he attended the Magic Moments Summit.
The Magic Moments Youth Leadership Summit was held in Collaroy, on Sydney’s North Shore, earlier this month and saw around 200 youth attend from across Australia.
This year was the third time that Aaron had attended the summit, but the first time in his role as a youth leader and mentor.
“Magic Moments teaches you about leadership, and how to love yourself, and all these different things from these speakers that come from all around the world to speak, and then they teach you the business side of things as well,” he said.
“I was invited back as a youth leader, it was my third year at the summit.”
“The people who organised the event chose me to be a leader, there were only eight people chosen to be leaders from those that attended previous years.”
Mr Donnelly said the speakers that attended the summit this year were very inspiring.
“When you come there as a participant you get put into a team and then there’s a youth leader, so this time as a youth leader I got to have my own team and help them through their journey,” he said.
“Throughout the five days that we were there, we learnt a lot about leadership.
“There were heaps of activities, things like goal setting, moving through your fears, and writing down your mission statement of what you want to achieve.”
Mr Donnelly thanked Bendigo Bank for sponsoring him to attend the event.
“It seems really scary and outside of your comfort zone, it’s not something I would normally have chosen to do but Bendigo Bank sponsored me to go so when you are put in the situation, go with an open mind because it really can be beneficial,” he said.
“Thank you to Bendigo Bank for giving young people the opportunity to do this, it’s really good that they are giving youth the opportunity to do these things outside of a small town.
“Next year I would love to go back, and I encourage more people to go and do this because I have been able to achieve so many things.”
