COLLIE resident and advocate for local tourism, George Colvin, successfully lobbied for Collie to be featured in an upcoming edition of RAC’s Horizons magazine.
Mr Colvin, who is a part of the Collie River Valley Marketing committee, contacted the RAC to see if they would be interested in featuring Collie in their members magazine.
“I wrote them a letter and then I went in and saw them and made contact with them and they were pretty interested,” he said.
“I am part of the Collie River Valley Marketing Group, and because I have a lot of connections and am pretty well known around Perth I can open a few doors.
“They agreed to feature Collie, and sent a feature writer down here, where she spent 2 and a half days being shown the sights.”
The representative from the RAC visited several sites in Collie and surrounding areas including Minninup Pool, Wellington Dam and kiosk, Art Gallery, Motorplex, Stockton Lake, Cardiff Blueberry Farm and Collie Golf Club.
Mr Colvin had previously written to the RAC to propose they consider Collie as a potential location for a car charging station on their ‘Electric Highway’ plan.
“The Electric Highway goes through Donnybrook, and I am going to persevere to get one here in Collie,” he said.
Mr Colvin said the project was a team effort.
“I would like to thank Allison Fergie from the shire, Mick Murray, The Visitors Centre, Rotary Club, Community Garden, Men Shed, Chamber of Commerce for all helping out,” he said.
“Once people get to know Collie then hopefully it will pay off.”
A representative from the RAC said RAC’s Horizons magazine has the largest circulation of more than 526,000 copies.
“RAC endeavours to highlight a diverse range of drives and destinations across the state suited to a wide range of travellers, from those looking for a true outback experience, to self-drives that may be ideal for families and short weekend getaways,” they said.
Collie will be featured in the November/December edition of Horizons magazine.
