Fifteen-year-old Collie cricket prospect Austin Kent is launching his chances at Australian sporting greatness into the stratosphere.
Kent told the Collie Mail he first became obsessed with cricket the second he could pick up a bat, inspired by his father Anthony and brother Brayden.
He then played throughout his time at Amaroo Primary School and Collie Senior High School.
Kent has played for a variety of teams including Collie Junior Cricket Club, Wellington Districts for Country Week and the SW regional side.
Kent and fellow SW player Jayden Goodwyn were selected for the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) Under 15s Academy development squad in May.
Kent was recently selected for the top 32 players in the program, with the final 16 enlisted in the WACA Under 15s side.
He has since been selected for the WA school boys’ team.
Kent has also been signed with Bullion Bats Australia.
He said the trials, which ran throughout the year, took time and energy to become accustomed to.
“It is a lot different to Collie, you do a lot more fitness and you have to drive to Perth once every week,” he said.
Austin’s mother Karina Kent said the travel and training regiment was all part of the journey.
“That’s what his biggest thing is is commitment, 110 per cent commitment and that’s why he is where he is,” she said.
