Despite being tipped as a favourite to win Georgia Love’s heart, Australind-raised Cam Cranley walked away without a rose in Wednesday’s episode of The Bachelorette.
Affectionately known as Fireman Cam, the WA bachelor was left comforting the Tasmanian beauty, after it was revealed she would not be choosing him.
“Inside, obviously, I was very emotional as well and I was trying to be like: ‘Hold it together, hold it together’,” the 26-year-old said.
“I was just trying to do the right thing and comfort her as well as keep it together and get out there before any emotions came out. It was hard – I don’t know how else to put it.”
It was in the midst of all this that Cranley said one little sentence which ruffled some feathers back home in Perth.
“Honestly the four guys in there (the remaining bachelors) are the best guys I've meet in my entire life,” the Perth heartthrob said while comforting Love.
And it turns out his mates back in sunny WA weren't too happy about that.
“So sorry to the work guys for those comments I made about (the contestants being) the four best guys I've met in my life, because the guys at work are very angry,” he said.
Cranley’s departure came after he and the remaining four contestants were whisked away on a group date to a recording studio, where they were greeted with news that they would be writing and performing a song for Love.
The five Bachelors took to the recording booth with a light-hearted and humorous approach and while Cranley surprised everyone with his vocal prowess, fellow bachelor Lee Elliott’s performance was equated with the sound of nails being scrapped down a blackboard.
“To be honest, I’m not that bad of a singer – I didn’t think I was that bad of a singer – but it did sound pretty horrible though,” Cranley said.
“But the other boys were worse so that’s my only comfort.
“I wish they turned the auto-tune up to be honest; if they were using it, they weren’t using it enough.”
Cranley said he has been still “very much single” since leaving The Bachelorette mansion, although he’s not looking for love.
While the fireman said the show was “an adventure” he’s still trying to find his normality in the midst of his 15 minutes of fame.
