Collie Street Stock racer Ethan Genev capped off 2016 through winning the QUIT Street Stock Stampede at Manjimup Speedway.
Genev grew up watching his father, Jeff Genev, race.
The 20-year-old has raced over the past 8 years across the South West.
Genev said he has worked to improve his racing skills over the better half of a decade.
“It’s good, a lot of hard work goes into it so when you get rewards it’s all worthwhile,” he said.
Genev races 15/16 meetings per season throughout Summer.
“This year we sort of stepped up our competition in the Street Stocks, which is the class I race, we’ve raced seven times this year and won four times,” he said.
“It feels good, as I said about the effort we’ve put in it’s all paid off and hopefully we can keep going - go and race over east see if we can get some more results.”
Genev came second in the Junior Sedans State Title in his last junior season before making the switch to the senior division.
He said the senior level has been a challenging experience.
“The competition levels are the same from Juniors to Seniors, the skills are all the same but it’s just everything is faster, upped the ante – you have got to work a lot harder for it in seniors and it’s good,” he said.
By day, Genev currently works as a Heavy Duty Fitter at Griffin Coal.
