Voting has commenced in Northam for the 2017 State election, with electors free to vote either at the early voting centre or on polling day.
Early voting can be done in person at the Northam Lesser Hall from Monday to Friday between 8.30am – 5pm.
Postal vote applications can also be lodged via the website, with application forms available at the post office.
Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake has advised that anyone wishing to vote early no longer needs to have a specific reason.
“In the past electors were required to declare that for some reason they were unable to
vote on polling day. That rule no longer applies”, Mr Kerslake said.
“If you simply prefer to vote early rather than leave it until polling day, that is your choice”, he said.
Based on the new legislation and trends in other states the Commission expects there to be a significant increase in the level of early voting at this election.
A list of early voting locations are available on the Electoral Commission’s website www.elections.wa.gov.au
Assistance for electors is available via the elections helpline 136306.
Polling day is Saturday 11 March.
