The Collie Eagles Football Club’s new president Ash Stewart is looking to help each junior and senior team claim victory throughout 2017.
Mr Stewart took over the president position at the beginning of the year.
He served as a committee member on the Collie Eagles Football Club board for the past three years, assisting the club with functions and fundraisers.
Mr Stewart has been involved in the club for around 13 years.
Prior to his run as committee member, Mr Stewart had served as CEFC League assistant coach, League coach, Reserves coach and player.
He played for the club as part of the 2004 South West Football League premiership team.
Mr Stewart said he was excited to be taking on the roles and responsibilities of club president.
“Shane [Golding] has stepped down from the president’s role last year, he did three years and did a great job, he was always going to do the three, he was always going to step down so I stepped up into that,” he said.
“I’ve been on the committee for the past three years, knowing most of the way that the club works – well, I thought I knew most of the way the club works until you get the president’s role and you find out there is a hell of a lot more to it.
“I’ve always been involved in footy and the next step was to take the president’s role."
The role will involve Mr Stewart working with the committee and delegating tasks to assist the club’s operations.
“That’s the main thing this time of year, trying to get everything organised to start the season then after that it’s game days, fundraising and general footy business through the season," he said.
Mr Stewart said the club, players and coaches were aiming to reach greater heights this season.
“On-field success breeds off-field success I guess, in terms of members in the club and money over the bar which is our bread and butter,” he said.
“Off the field we just want to make sure that we are financially viable and we’re looking to promote and have more of an involvement with the junior side of things as well.
“We’ve been two separate clubs, two separate committees between juniors and seniors so we want to have more of an involvement through the juniors and push our senior players to help out the juniors.”
He said he would like to see the players have fun playing football and create an enjoyable environment to participate in.
Mr Stewart is also the owner and manager of Henderson Hardware on Throssell Street.
