The Department of Parks and Wildlife has hit out at irresponsible off-road vehicle users after a national park was badly damaged by four wheel drive tyre tracks.
Officers took photographs of the burn-out marks at the Mt Lindesay National Park near Denmark on Wednesday morning, and warned drivers to consider where they were taking their vehicles.
"WA's one of the best places in the world to explore but it's important to remember there are environmentally sensitive areas," a spokesperson said.
"These photos show damage caused by illegal off-road vehicles to Mt Lindesay National Park near Denmark.
"The nearby lake is an Aboriginal sacred site. Please take note of signage in our national parks and keep to designated tracks, and if in doubt check with a ranger or call the local Parks and Wildlife office."
Mount Lindesay National Park is well known for being a home to many threatened ecological communities, and the Department of Parks and Wildlife currently has recovery plans in place for the local flora and fauna.
Offenders who use off road vehicle vehicles in non-permitted areas could have their vehicle seized for up to 12 months and face a $1000 fine.
