Physio Group South West owner and operator Jasmine Hulls is working towards assisting each customer and providing a valuable community service in Collie.
The 32-year-old grew up on a farm before going to school in Albany.
The business owner discovered her love for physiotherapy through work experience at 15-years-old.
She studied a bachelor of science in physiotherapy at Notre Dame, part of the university’s first class of physiotherapy graduates.
Hulls worked at Armadale Hospital whilst studying before working at Therapy Focus, assisting children with disabilities. She moved to Collie for her husband’s work in 2008 before being employed at Progress Physiotherapy.
In 2009, Hulls, at 24, bought the private physiotherapy practice she had worked in for 18 months.
“I thought: ‘Let’s give it a crack’, it’s a passion of mine, I didn’t know a lot about the business side of it but the physio side of it was a passion of mine and I felt: ‘Well, what better way to help people than take on the business, and grow and expand the businesses’,” she said.
“[It was] lots of trial and error but also I am pretty committed to learning, self-growth, and very open to mentors and people who have been in business, there are lots of people out there who have lots of knowledge, so I just tried to seek out as many of those opportunities as possible.”
Since then, Hulls and Physio Group South West have picked up the 2014 SW Small Business Award as well as Business Person of the Year, SW Business of the Year and two Business with Five to 10 Employees awards in later years.
Last year, she received the Western Australia Regional Small Business Awards Business with five to 10 Employees prize.
She was most recently named a 2017 40 Under 40 award winner.
“It was incredibly inspiring to be in a room with a whole bunch of people like that, it kind of just puts things into perspective and makes you go: ‘Wow, there are so many awesome people out there that are doing amazing things’, It inspires me to want to do the same thing,” she said.
Physio Group South West currently employs physiotherapists in their Collie, Australind and Harvey practices.
Hulls said she would be working on becoming an even better leader and increasing Physio Group South West’s influence in the community in 2017.
“My number one piece of advice for people would be to never stop learning, you have got to open your mind to learning and realise there are so many people out there with knowledge and skills, and so many opportunities to learn and grow,” she said.
