The Collie Mongrels Rugby Club is set to don pink jerseys for breast cancer research.
The team takes to the field with their new look – National Breast Cancer Foundation ‘one off’ jerseys – on Saturday, June 17 at 3pm against the Bunbury Bulls at the Collie Senior High School grounds.
The side will auction off all 23 jerseys at the Club Hotel at 7pm, with all funds going to the foundation.
Collie Mongrels RUFC player Peter Bellden said this was the first time the club was taking on the initiative.
“One of the committee members suggested it and thought it might be a good show of generosity to the community,” he said.
“It’s to show we’re not all rough-heads and we think about bigger things than just beating each other up. I think it’s a good thing, it’s awesome.
“So even though there are hard times in the community people are still getting behind us which is awesome.”
Local businesses Davis Seafoods, The Club Hotel, Drycleaners On Steere, Shear Salon, Collie Bus Services, Mick Murray MLA, Sports First Collie, Henderson's Hardware, Lindaz Central Deli and Collie Shoeland have come on board as sponsors.
The sponsors each put in $100 to buy the jerseys.
