The Landmark Country Football Championships have come and gone for another year and 2018 proved to be a clean sweep for the South West Football League, winning the colts, division one and also the women’s exhibition match in Mandurah.

But while the South West will head home with the new silverware for their trophy cabinet, it’s clear to see that country footy in WA is the overall winner, with the tournament once again proving the sport is thriving at the grassroots level.
To see leagues like the Goldfields and Avon back to positions of strength highlighted the success stories in the league divisions, while the colts competition continues to show we have plenty of promising young guns coming through WA’s footy pathways.
And without a doubt, the women’s exhibition match will continue to grow in competitiveness as time goes on and other leagues outside the South West continue to develop.
