I have been actively involved in Collie as a community member of the following committees for several years: Chamber of Commerce Executive and as their representative on the Board of Motoring South West, Townscape committee, CBD committee, Collie River Valley Marketing Group, Collie Visitors Centre.
I have worked as a high school teacher, TAFE lecturer, Manager of Collie TAFE and now own and operate Auto One Collie with my brother Greg Smith.
Collie needs to diversify and look at new industries for the future to ensure that we have a need to support, preserve and encourage the expansion of the many wonderful assets that we already have: The Motorplex – Motoring Southwest is unique and has the potential to bring huge numbers of people to Collie and is the only motor racing track outside Perth. MInninup Pool, Black Diamond, the Scenic Drive and countless other areas that have stunning bush that is as spectacular as anywhere in WA, a mountain bike trail, the wonderful skate park and spectacular Central Park all add to our fantastic town.
In 2016 I coordinated the Weekend of Wheels – Round the Houses which was a great success.
I will bring my experience in business to the Council to help to improve, develop and promote industry and future growth in Collie. If appointed to the Council I undertake to represent all members of the community to the best of my ability.
I am an independent candidate and am not affiliated with any group or individual.
