In the Ruebens News Championship Pairs semi finals played last week, Jim McElroy and Brian Butcher had form going into the game. They played Gary Keep and Ron Guilfoyle who had won their last couple of games by one shot.
Keep and Guilfoyle started well and had McElroy and Butcher 8-2 after four ends.
The pair went on their merry way and continued to build and by the 15th end they were 18-7 to take a convincing win.
The other semi final between Rod Garner and Wayne Simmonds was against Tom Edwards and Ashley Collins. Garner and Simmond started well and had their opposition at 14-6 on the ninth end.
Edwards and Collins fought back and made it 14-all on the 12th end.
By the 14th end Edwards and Collin piled on the score to make it 20-14.
The duo ran out winners with 21-17 on the 17th end.
Grand final
This game was between Gary Keep and Ron Guilfoyle and Tom Edwards and Ashley Collins.
Keep and Guilfoyle started well and had a 9-2 lead in the first four ends.
They led until the 10 end when both teams were 10-all and from then on its was neck and neck with the 13 end being 12-all.
Keep and Guilfoyle then gained a two on the 15th end then another two on the 16th.
It went down to the last end where Edwards and Collins needed a four to draw or five to win.
They were holding four then crucial bowls by Keep cut one of their bowls down and at the finish Edwards and Collins scored a three and made it 15 but it wasn’t enough to take the title with their opposition scoring 16.
