It’s a case of out with the old and in with the new for firefighters at the Collieburn-Cardiff Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.
The brigade has taken possession of a brand new Cardiff 4.4 fire truck that replaces their 18-year-old Cardiff 3.4. The new four wheel drive truck has some nifty new features that will make life a little easier and safer for the 35 firefighters at the brigade. Chief among those is the dual cab that will allow more firefighters on the truck.
Collieburn-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Brigade fire control officer Drifty Haywood said the dual cab also provided an opportunity for less experienced firefighters to ride along with the more experienced crew.
He said the new truck could hold more water - 4000 litres - and sported an automatic transmission, which would help with driver fatigue. It also had better safety features, such as in-cab air, halo sprays and burn-over curtains.
The truck was officially handed over to the brigade on Wednesday, November 22 and Mr Haywood said training on the new truck would start immediately.
