Neil Motion and Peter Coombs have taken the honours over the festive season at Collie Golf Club.
Motion was at his best when taking 82 hits to complete the 18 holes in captain Clayton Flynn’s stroke event which was contested by a good field of 64.
The winner’s 65 nett eclipsed an excellent 67 nett returned by Ron Annandale who made up for a couple of short putt misses with some excellent ball striking off the tees and fairways.
Country member Tom Hardie won the third-place trophy on a three-way countback from Terry Reeves and John Michalak. They finished on 70 nett.
Jim Larsen was next on 71, while heading a group on 72 was club champ Chris Stewart, who also won the gross trophy with a one over par 73.
Fellow low marker Garry Beard also had 72 nett as did Joe Italiano and Phillip Warburton.
Dot Lawrence won the ladies’18-hole stableford with 39 points, two better than Michelle Tate’s 37.
Greg Bell (No. 4), Dot Lawrence (4), Brett Smith (6), Jan Vollenstee (7), Ben Mead (9), Bev Moyses (12), Garry Beard (14), Kalev Kutt (15) and Jay Robinson (18) won the novelties.
Coombs went to Christmas a winner when winning the 18-hole stableford for the Nancy Lynn and Dot Lawrence trophies on Saturday, December 23.
He opened with 24 points on the front nine before adding 20 more on the back nine for 44, three better that the irrepressible Ray Cooper, on 41.
Frank Battista was third with 40, while also rewarded for their efforts were Ian Stewart 39, Kalev Kutt 38, Jim Hine 37, Ben Mead, John Michalak and David Broadbent 36.
One of the donors, Dot Lawrence, had the best score in the ladies’ event – 33 – but graciously declined the award enabling Vicki Graham, who also had 33, to take the trophy.
Trevor Lawrence was nearest the pin on No. 4, while Ian Stewart (7), Bev Moyses (12) and Neil Motion (14) had the best tee shots on the other par three holes.
Longest putts were sunk by Colin Giblett (6), Tony Barker-May (9) and Steven Ireland (18). David Broadbent had a “runner” on No. 15 which surpassed the marker for longest drive.
Narrogin country member Tom Hardie was a four-point winner in the Tuesday leisure day stableford contested before Christmas, finishing with a very tidy 43 to be well clear of Steve Gianola on 39.
Bruce Roberts was one further back on 38, with the day’s best vet, Mick Jack, and Jim Larsen also playing well for 37.
Colin Giblett was alone on 36, while 34s were returned by Frank Battista, Trevor Lawrence, Steve Farquhar, John Williamson and Ken Tate.
Scroungers welcomed in the festive season with one of event organiser Ed Riley’s speciality events in the week before Christmas, with gents hitting off ladies’ tees on the odd numbers holes on the front nine.
Frank Battista made the most of the forward tees to finish at the top of the table on 25 points. Jay Robinson had 23, while Peter Coombs gave an indication of things to follow with a score of 22. Colin Naysmith had an event free 21, while completing the vouchers winners, on 20, were Des Hebb, Jim Larsen, Ray Cooper and Ron Annandale.
Novelties were won by Frank Battista (1), Graeme Jackson (4), Clive Pullan (6), Steve Ireland (7) and Jim Tyler (9).
Last Thursday’s scroungers was won by two strokes by Ed Riley. Riley finished with 21 points, two better than Trevor Graham, Kim Metcalfe, Harry Hadfield and Eric Annandale on 19. Another point back were Dave Henderson, Graham Williams and Bruce Miller. Novelty winners were Jim Moyses (No. 6) and Tony Barker-May (9).
