The Runaway Bus service, connecting Collie to other towns in South West, has started running again for another year.
The bus took its first journey for the new year on Tuesday, January 2 and will continue to run each weekday until Thursday, January 25.
Collie local George Bagshaw was one of the passengers who utilised the service during its first week back and said it provided a great service to the community.
“It’s ideal … especially for people like me who don’t drive,” he said.
While there are daily bus services to Bunbury and Perth, the Runaway Bus service is the only direct service from Collie to towns such as Busselton and Dunsborough, making it popular with families during school holidays.
The Runaway Bus picks up passengers at the Collie Visitor Centre every Monday to Friday at 7.35am and travels through several towns in the South West before returning to Collie at 5.25pm. The cost of the service is $20 per passenger for the day.
Mr Bagshaw also said that while the public transport system was good during the week, it needs to expand to weekends.
Mr Bagshaw said there were no buses that run between Collie and Bunbury on weekends, making hard for people who don’t drive to get to Perth or anywhere else.
