Opening night of the Collie Art Prize happened at the Collie Art Gallery on Friday night with artists, judges, friends and family all attending.

The theme for this year’s Collie Art Prize was identity, it encouraged artists to submit significant artworks which explored the age-old issue of identity and belonging.
The major prize winner of $50,000 was awarded to Brian Robinson with his piece ‘By Virtue of This Act I Hereby Take Possession of This Land,’ which was made possible by the commitment of Collie and Districts Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank.
Two non-acquisitive prizes of $5000 cash and a complimentary exhibition at the Collie Art Gallery were also awarded to local Sarah Smith with her piece ‘Cotton Candy’ and Darlington artist Alistair Taylor for his ‘Synchronymity’ (96 Alistair Taylors). These two awards were made possible by the Rotary Club of Collie.
A People’s Choice prize of $1000 is still up for grabs for the best piece, presented by Collie bed and breakfast, Whispering Pines.
To vote for your favourite piece and to see the exhibition of the winners’ and finalists’ head to the Collie Art Gallery, open from 10am to 4pm seven days a week from March 3 until April 15.
