Collie Eagles Football Club’s new League coach Seth White is excited to be taking control of the team for the 2018 season.
White served as assistant coach for the last two years and he said the experience will help him into the new role.
“It’s a pretty big honour to be coach of the league side in town and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“[The last two years] were like a mini apprenticeship under [former coach, Clint] Swallow and I’ve seen how it all works and what you have to day-to-day.
“You’re always on the phone about this and that and I got used to that over the last couple of years.
“Now I’ll get to take the reins and be in charge of it all.”
White said he’ll put his own touch on the team, but he won’t be steering too far away from the game style that led the Eagles to top three finishes on the ladder over the past two years.
“I’ll probably be a little more attacking and more worried about what we’re doing, rather than focussing on the opposition,” he said.
“A lot of our tactics will still be the same, but just tweaked a bit.
“We’ll look to use the ball through the middle a bit and use our key forwards and … take a bit more risk.”
While Collie is seen around the league as one of the teams to beat this season, White said his goal is to qualify for finals for the third straight season.
“Obviously everyone starts the year thinking they can be this and that, but ideally we’ll try and make the five,” he said.
“Anything above that is a bonus.”
He also said it was important for the club to give younger players opportunities throughout the season and making sure there is a good culture around the club.
The Eagles kick off their season this Saturday afternoon with a clash against the fast-finishing Augusta-Margaret River Hawks at Gloucester Park.
