Water Corporation has reminded households, businesses and local governments in the South West to switch off garden sprinklers as of today as part of the winter sprinkler ban.
From June 1 until August 31, all scheme and domestic bore water users in the Shire of Collie will be risking a $100 fine or written warning if they turn on their sprinkler.
Hand watering is still permitted.
Water Corporation spokesperson Clare Lugar said the the Winter Sprinkler Switch-off saved nearly five billion litres of water – enough to fill Optus Stadium five times – last year.
Water minister Dave Kelly said with the constant environmental challenges WA faces it was more important than ever to keep up our waterwise habits during winter.
If people witness anyone breaching the switch-off, they can report it online at www.watercorporation.com.au/breach or by phoning 13 10 39.
In areas not subject to the switch-off, such as the Shire of West Arthur, normal watering rosters and the daytime sprinkler ban still apply.
