The Shire of Collie, in collaboration with Collie Police and South32, will host a cycling safety awareness event for the community this week.
The free event will take place in Central Park from 11am on Sunday, June 10 and will promote bike and scooter safety.
Crank’n Cycles will be providing free bike safety checks on the day, while there will also be giveaways.
The event will also feature a guided trail ride that will take off from Central Park at 12pm and a free lunch for all participants.
Shire of Collie chief executive David Blurton said bike and scooter safety was an ongoing concern in the community.
“The bike safety message is something that needs to be highlighted as it’s important to ensure that everyone is safe while using footpaths and roads,” he said.
Mr Blurton also said the bike safety event would offer free bike ‘health checks’ so bike users would know how to improve their safety while riding.
Shire president Sarah Stanley said wearing a helmet was one of the easiest ways bike and scooter users could stay safe.
“It’s great to see so many people, young and old, getting out and about on bikes and scooters but we need to raise awareness of important safety aspects so that everyone gets home safely,” she said.
