This year’s autumn was the warmest recorded in Collie in six years according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Collie recorded an average maximum temperature of 24.5 degrees across the months of March, April and May – the highest since 24.5 was also recorded across the same period in 2012.
While both March and April recorded average temperatures, May’s average maximum temperature of 21.8 degrees was almost two degrees higher than average and the warmest since 2003.
Bureau of Meteorology climatologist Yanhui Blockley said a dominant high pressure system in the South West resulted in 18 straight days in May where the temperature was over 20 degrees.
The high pressure system also resulted in one day – May 12 – reaching a maximum of 28.4 degrees, making it the warmest May day in 15 years (May 2, 2003 reached 28.7 degrees).
Ms Blockley said a cold front had passed through in late May which reduced temperatures, but there was a strong chance Collie would also experience a warmer winter this year.
She also said there was an equal chance that Collie would experience a wetter or dryer than average winter.
