Tony Barker-May survived a tight two-way countback to win the Rod Miller Memorial “S*** Happens Day” event at Collie Golf Club last Saturday.
Barker-May got the better of Greg Moyle in the countback after both had finished with 71 nett in the 18-hole stroke event.
Just one further back were Ken Smallwood and Nick Williams on 72, while playing to their respective handicaps on 73 were Warren Hann, Jan Van Volenstee and Ron Annandale.
Vouchers were also awarded to John Wray, Dean Rakich and Jim Hine (74), and Trevor Lawrence (75).
An excellent field of 76 men participated in the event, among them Capel visitor Shaye Tresize who produced a one under par round of 71 to win the gross trophy.
Tresize was one of many visitors who made the trip to Collie to participate in the memorial event.
Rocket’s brothers, Warren and Stephen Miller, and his nephew, Steven, were among the visitors.
The ladies’ event was won by Dot Lawrence with a neat 72 nett, which was two better than Deb Van Volenstee’s 74 and three better than Lynne Gillan’s 75.
Novelty winners were: Bill Cromarty (4), Bruce Miller (6), Steve Miller Jnr (7), Alby Hunter (9), Trevor Salter (14), Terry Reeves (15) and Eric Annandale (18).
Karen Bond won the ladies’ novelty on No. 4.

Terry Massara and Des Hebb were the shining lights at the nine-hole scroungers event played last Thursday.
They finished with 20 points and, in a spin-of-the-wheel, Massara got the verdict and an extra shot deducted from his handicap.
Dean Rakich 18, Jim Moyses 17 and Ron Annandale won vouchers.
Harry Hadfield (No. 4), Jeff Crowe (6) and Harry Hadfield (9) won the novelties.

Ken Tate won the leisure day 18-hole stableford played on Tuesday of last week.
Tate finished with 40 points to have a couple of strokes to spare from John Rabjones on 28.
Neil Motion 34, Paul Moyses 33 and Jay Robinson 32 were the best of the rest.
Steven Ireland (No. 4), David Broadbent (7) and Neil Motion (14) were nearest the pins on the par three holes, while longest putts went to Jim Moyses (9) and Ray Cooper (18).

The winter solstice 18-hole stableford on Saturday is the major event on the club calendar this week.
The Solstice group is providing trophies for men and ladies, as well as food afterwards.
Scroungers will be played on Thursday and an 18-hole stableford is scheduled for leisure day next Tuesday.
